The Countdown Is On!!!

 

 

The Thanksgiving countdown has started here.  This is a 16 lb. all natural free range turkey.  It is soaking in a brine we make using maple sugar cure.  It takes a couple days to really brine the bird well.  We will be smoking it in the UDS (ugly drum smoker) on Thanksgiving day.  But before we put it on to smoke, we will need to rinse it well and soak it in fresh water for awhile.  Then Tramp 1 will give it some special treatment before it goes on the heat.

I got to wrestle with this bird myself today.  Tramp 1 had to go to California on business and will be flying back in late Wednesday evening with all the other holiday travelers.  We have company arriving tomorrow, too.  A dear cousin and her husband are brave enough to join us this year!

Now, for a bit of humor - Sunday Tramp 1 was rushing to get to the airport - I let him drive himself this time - no midnight pick up for me!  Anyway, he decided at the last minute to change jeans as he was wearing his Keen clogs.  When he got to the airport he found that in his haste, he had put on the wrong shoes.  He had on his slippers!!!  They are slip on like clogs but are really beat up and all stained, etc.  So he had to go buy a new pair of shoes when he got to California!!  Too funny!!!!  He has his dress shoes but doesn't want to wear them with jeans...  Remember, this is the guy that got to work with two different shoes on one day - in fact, I think he has done it twice now!!!  How is that for funny??!!!
