Okay, Mother Nature needs to start treating us better around here. Our garden isn't in yet and we are feeling the pressure. But the weather has been totally unpredictable. Last Thursday it snowed here! We were running around like crazy people bringing in plants. The kitchen sink was filled with pepper plants and squash plants. We put all the tomato plants in the bathtub. The pot of basil was in the bathroom sink. Everybody is back outside now, sucking in the warmth - in fact, they are probably being burned - I need to check on them!!! After several weeks with killing frost, we are so leery!
It has rained, too, sluicing rain - not soft drizzly rain. The wheelbarrows had some three inches of water in the them - so that means I need to get outside and check for standing water in old pots, the potato tires and anywhere else it might be so we aren't breeding mosquitoes in a few days.
Then there are the weeds. Just think how happy they are right now. They are literally growing inches overnight. Of course, the deer don't eat weeds - but they did sample the astilbe and the wisteria. Around here it is all about the fencing - and sometimes we wonder why we do it all. Why not just let everything go back to a natural state? Why not?? Because we are gardeners - we love to grow things - we love to TRY to grow things. We simply can't stop trying - ever...
The weather is improving this week. We are going to hit the garden long and hard. The time has come - the frost is gone (?) and we are going to plant!!!

You said it all right there. No matter HOW crazy the weather gets,or how many times the deer/gophers/mice/rabbits eat our gardens, or despite nutty husbands who think they have to be on the road during the BUSIEST time of the garden year---- we HAVE to garden. You are indeed a wise woman. Have a great week. Now, go plant something!!

My sympathies....Things are not much different in N.H.I grew lettuce all winter under a hoop up against our foundation. Had a warm April so, started my spinach carrots and radishes.Had a hard frost!!! Replanted.... chipmunks are loving this tender treat. Took first 2 weeks off in May to start the garden for real.Heavy rain almost 14 days in a row. Seriously thinking of getting a miner's hat as night seems to be rain free.However it could be worse. A few towns over some of the streets were flooded yesterday when several brooks overflowed.And still I can't help but wonder what will I plant next......Don't you just love it.
