Still here, just busy... and BBQ'n

Yes, we two Tramps are still around. We have just been really busy with landscaping, gardening and life in general. But no matter how busy we might be, Tramp 1 finds time to BBQ. While my Mom was visiting us over the 4th, he decided he wanted to smoke some brisket. We totally forgot to take pictures of the trimming and seasoning process...

This is the brisket all nicely rubbed, wrapped and resting in the ice chest until the start time at midnight.

And this is Tramp 1 snoozing away after opting to sleep on the couch in the family room for the night to be closer to his work. Very nice for me not to have him jumping up and down all night.

And we are missing any pictures that he wanted to take during the night as the camera battery went dead... This is after some 13 or so hours of cook time. It was a 15 lb. brisket before fat removal.

It cut up very nicely and had a good smoke ring on it. Tramp 1 took a plate of it to friends across the valley - good thing - they had just burned their salmon patties and when they set the hot pan on the tempered glass hot plate, it shattered all over their kitchen.

There are the lovely burnt ends or bark of the brisket. We saved them for later to be chopped up and sauced. Yummm!!!

Yes, I cooked, too. I made bran muffins in my Sun Oven. Such fun! Tramp 1 gave it to me for my birthday in March and I am just now finding time - and sun - to start using it.

Wayne has been experimenting on our BBQ (he is the dinner cook unless it's soup). He has now added roast and whole chickens to his regular fare. The Sun Oven looks like something that would be fun to have at the cabin. - Margy
