Rain in the high desert...

Last Wednesday it was 100 degrees. Friday we woke up to frost. The temperature swings here in the high desert of Oregon can be quite extreme - sometimes a difference of 60 degrees from day to night.

Today we have rain - wonderful life bringing rain. It gives every creature a break from the heat. Okay, maybe the snakes aren't enjoying the rain much... And I suppose it is a real bummer for the bees, too. (Did you know that when you are in skunk cabbage territory and it is cold, you might look inside the skunk cabbage flower for bees. They sometimes go inside the flower to warm themselves on cold days.) And this rain has got to be a real gift to all those hard working folks that have been manning the fires around here the past several weeks.

Rainy days make me want to make soup and cookies. But I made oyster chowder last night and we are still eating the cookies I made on Friday. Guess I better find something else to do. Maybe curl up on the couch by the woodstove with a good book or a pile of magazines. (Yes, I did light a fire - it is cold and we have plenty of wood.) I could do some painting - the bathroom, the bedrooms, etc. or I could clean in the garage or go down to the shop and work on some sorting and organizing there. I could clip and file coupons and make a few "to do" lists. Whatever endeavor I decide to follow, first I need another cup of coffee - the barometric pressure changes with the wet weather have me craving a boost!

What do you like to do on rainy days?

My favorite thing to do on a rainy day is eat and that is not good.

It's about 57 degrees here with some light rain today. I think the high is to be around 66.

I'm going to spend some time today pressing my fall clothes.

Oh the thought of a wood stove with a fire sounds so good to me right now....we have probably another two months before that happens...I would probably curl up with a good book if it was in the afternoon...my motto is "If it is not done by noon it is not getting done today"...

Linda -
You are so wonderfully organized - ironing fall things. You continue to inspire me here.

Sheryl,
I love your motto - but I seem to get a spurt of energy around the time Tramp 1 is heading home for work - I am the queen of procrastination...

I thought it was the law that you were supposed to stay in bed and read on rainy days... did somebody change it?!?!

We had a bit of rain up at the cabin, but only a bit. We sure need more. We got started on our wood storage finally. Our wood float was sinking from all the weight so we had to add four barrels before we could move the new wood in. We are starting by cutting the easy stuff that doesn't need splitting first. Then comes the big stuff. Not so much fun, but like you, we want enough to keep the wood stove going all winter long. As far as bees, in the spring, I find them inside my daffodils until the sun comes up. Kind of the same thing as the skunk cabbage tents. - Margy

When it rains, it is a great time to make a pot of soup and sit to read a good book. At this stage; I enjoy reading all blogs at the computer with a nice cup of green tea. Thank you for your visit and kind words.
