Game ON!!

Late last night - or actually very early this morning I was up in the living room watching TV. Yes, I was a bit bleary eyed but I could still see well enough to glimpse a speedy mouse skirting the baseboard. He/she ran from behind the gas stove to behind the TV. A bit later it reversed and headed back to where it came from. There is a trap under the gas stove that hasn't been touched... But we did find one of the perpetrators smacked in a trap in the laundry room when we got home Monday night. And I re-bated two traps with some leftover beans after I saw the critter last night and I put out the Havaheart trap, too.

After getting up this morning and finding not one mouse in any of the traps, I decided to wage war! I have departed from the favored bait of salami and am currently offering blue cheese. And I have set five traps - I need to make a map so I will remember where they all are... kind of sad, but I am sleep deprived lately. And I hope to be the recipient of a carcass or two of beady eyed brethren by morning.

We have had a mouse problem this year too...never had one before. Every year it is a different"pestilence" it seems!

Yes, Melodie, it seems to be that way. The landscaping guy was just here to check on the sprinkler leaks and said that we have a critter tunneling under our new lawn! Am going to have to put bait bars out for it...

Yuck!! Yuck!! Yuck!!
I hate mice. My husband deals with them, I just can't do it.

Right, Mel, Tramp 1 usually handles the traps. But I thought I could at least bait them - he can empty them!!

Daughter was having rat problems. Had landscaping ties torn out, rats running everywhere.

In Texas, one dry summer, rats took over our big tree and the bird houses in it. We noticed excessive amounts of bird seed disappearing. We took in the feeders. When dark came, husband stepped outside and shined a flash light on the trees. Rats were streaming down that tree, headed for our dripping bird bath.

My mother stabbed a mouse with a shish-k-bob one time. She didn't take kindly to it being in her kitchen cabinet.

Linda,

Rats?! I'll take the mice...

My Mom is like yours was - a couple years ago she found a snake coming down the hallway - she grabbed a hatchet and cut it's head off, then took it to the neighbors for identification - she was around 80 years old. She has been know to trap squirrels and skunks, too. Don't mess with her!!

We are waging a war too...looking for a kitten to help solve the problem...little creatures took over while we were gone to Colorado...I was thinking the other day...why do I hate (afraid of) mice so bad but I really like lizards?

Sheryl - I like the lizards better, too. The mouse thing escalated for me years ago with the rise in Hanta Virus... They are so cute but you just never know which one could kill you!

Knock on wood- we haven't seen any mice since we fixed a hole in the basement wall around the bathroom fan. But our house had been vacant for a year before we moved in and the mice had made themselves at home. Eviction was rather brutal but effective. Of course, the two cats may be helping!
Good luck with the war!

We've been very lucky with keeping mouse out of the cabin, but I think our luck just ran out (or in as it were). The last morning I discovered a "present" on the kitchen sink and another on the table. There was no way to set up the Havahart trap and we didn't want to return home to find the "kids" had an orgy in our absence. We opted to put out some of the quick kill bait and hope that does the trick. I will need to scrub good when we get back for sure. - Margy

p.s. We did have Mom's cat up there for the last three weeks, but I don't think he knows what a mouse is. Poor guy is a city indoor cat with no mousing experience.

We live in the country where mice are an ongoing problem although right now, I am amazed that we don't have more of problem. Best wishes on catching your critter.

Mouse Count - 0 - Yes, a big fat zero! First thing out of bed this morning was to check the traps...

The old stand-by here in Texas s peanut butter! Mice seem to love it!

Ought to work in the high country as well!

Okay, Murph and H.J., you are talking about some of my favorite food now! Yes, I will try the bacon and the PB - no one seems too interested in the blue cheese! Thanks for the suggestions.
