Dang! Pour me a double shot...

Whiskey or coffee, I don't care which... I know you all have to be getting tired of hearing about the trials and tribulations here at Tramp's Camp. Believe me, you haven't heard the half of it - and you won't. But sometimes I just need an outlet...

This day started out cold, really cold with our first very light frost. Great day, perfect to clean the oven. A little heat sounded good. Somehow I also ended up cooking beans from scratch and mixing up cookie dough, too. That sent me into the pantry where I had to rearrange a few things to get what I needed.

Then I found it - a telltale little pile of paper - part of the label off the mayonnaise. I looked a bit more with a sinking heart and found a two pound bag of powdered sugar that had been breached on two sides. And the microwave popcorn packages have all been opened for us. Yep, a mouse had a party! We caught a chubby mouse in the laundry room a few weeks ago - now we know why he/she was a bit rotund...

Do you think that maybe I wasn't supposed to be making cookies? We WILL eat them - all of them... And we shouldn't... But we WANT to! Why? It's Friday night, the end of the week, the hot spell has broken, the smoke from the fires has dissipated some and Tramp 1 flew in late last night from a business trip - and HE wants a cookie!! Alright, alright - I want a cookie - I want a pile of them... They are oatmeal raisin with nuts - yummm!

What is your favorite kind of cookie and why do you need one?

Oatmeal and raisin sounds mighty good to me right now. It has been a tough week. Got lots of guys calling me looking for work, asking what I'm drawing and if they can give me bids. The project I'm on is durn near the only thing going there are a lot of guys scrambling to stay afloat. My pipeline looks to have a few more months worth left in it but my guys aren't so lucky. I do what I can be we're all looking at the same rough road ahead. A cookie would be a nice reminder that life is good and even though we might all be doing something different this winter, eventually it'll work itself out.

Sorry to be such a downer. It has been one of those weeks.

Oatmeal, raisen and walnut is my favorite...I think of them as granola bars..better for you than what you buy in the store as "health food"....no preservatives or chemicals..hey..we can rationalize any thing if we have too..even a double shot..and I'm not talking coffee!! I keep everything in glass jars or tupperware now...

I love oatmeal cookies with anything but raisins. How about some cranberries instead?

A light frost??? I am just thrilled we are down to the mid 60's at night and low 90's during the day. It's the same every year, at the end of winter I beg for summer to arrive and then at the end of summer it's the other way around. I am so ready for fall!
I needed some chocolate chip cookies this afternoon. Why? I work with 10 three year old's every morning. Nuff said...

Oh Tramp I feel for you! Seems many of us are going through a round of challenges. Our dear dog Lady will have to be put down soon. I've been a puddle of tears today but grateful that she's not in any pain.

As for cookies, we had a craving last week for chocolate chip. Ended up buying soft ones cause our oven went out. And though I'm a talented cook on the grill or the wood stove I just didn't feel up to "baking" on either. Right now I'm craving a banana split and oatmeal cranberry cookies with white chocolate chunks. Anyone want to send me some?

Guess we just have to hope and pray for a better tomorrow. I sure do cause we removed a makeshift peice of siding from the house today and found a bat and a chipmonk nest! Treesong

Mo,
Good to hear from you - you are not a downer but simply telling us how things are looking in your area with the economy. We need to know...

Everyone -
Cookies sure seem to be a universal topic! We don't make them often here as we are lacking self control... Think about it - we keep the candy locked in the gun safe, not the guns!

Thanks for the various combination ideas for the next batch we make around here. Cranberries and white chocolate sound yummy.

Cookie - Oatmeal chocolate chip. Kind of traditional but always good.

Mouse - We lucked out, whoever left two telltale turds on the sink the day before we left disappeared. Must have gone out the way he came in before we locked up. Sorry to hear your mouse story didn't end with the initial capture. - Margy
