Frost? Yes. Pumpkins? No... How about frost on the Hubbard squash? One tiny little fellow that managed to grow... But the sun is up and shining brightly so things should warm up soon. We are headed down into the teens for lows the next few days and need to check everything outside for colder weather. We also need to harvest our potatoes - we don't expect a bumper crop but will enjoy whatever we find.
We are thinking about taking off this afternoon to go camping for a night. It sounds really good but so does staying right here! We are sitting in the bay window, drinking hot coffee and enjoying the heat from the wood cook stove. It will be even colder up in the mountains... We will need to add liners to our sleeping bags... And it is the last weekend of rifle deer season... Do you think I am trying to get out of going?!
All this week we have had roofers pounding away on the house and shop. Due to hail damage several years ago, we needed to get all the roofing replaced. It is a huge job. And the fellows working on it have varying work ethics. One shows up early, works like crazy and stays until done for the day. Another shows up late, works really slow and leaves early. Their boss doesn't get out here to check up on them much.... The job really should have been finished yesterday but the slow guy who has been working on the house seems to be holding things up. So they will be back again on Monday. Tuesday we have weather changing so they need to ramp it up and get it done!

I think that second guy worked for me once.........
:D
Frustrating for sure, but once it's done-hooray!!
Good luck with the 'tater crop! Enjoy the camping trip and be sure to duck when the shooting starts!
So funny how I have been longing for a little fishing trip or something...just a trip away with Hubby maybe to the mountains. That time of year I guess. :)

It should be done now - but it isn't and we have freezing rain this morning...
Jim -
Only heard one shot while camping - the deer are pretty scarce this year.

Hope you can find time for an outing. It was a mental lift for us even if it was only for one night.
I tried your "Q"tip on pollinating my pumpkins, but no luck at all. I did get one to set naturally, but it rotted off the vine very early in it's life. So this Halloween we'll do it the old fashioned way, skip it. I don't think I'll try pumpkins again. They would take up too much space in my floating garden and I think they didn't like living in a pot very much. - Margy
Margy,
From what we have heard, it was a tough year for pollination for many gardners. We are toying with the idea of getting bees - we sure could use some here!
