Necessary change -

Today Tramp 1 had an MRI of his back, then we met with the Neurosurgeon. The news isn't great. He has a ruptured disk, again.... It hasn't reached the extreme level of pain yet that was there before his last surgery in 2005. So we are hoping that he can avoid surgery for some time. He will be receiving injections in his spine as soon as they can be scheduled. He has been told to take it easy - something he is not very good at! So I will have to be the task master and try to hold him back and remind him not to lift, twist, bend, etc. I think I can handle the job!!

While in town, we went to the hospital to visit our friends and their son. They are so courageous with all they have faced in the past month. It is so difficult to look at their dear son in his coma - he looks fine - just like he is sleeping. But he isn't coming back.... He is leaving slowly as his body is shutting down. Our hearts weep for their entire family and what they have lost. They give us strength and we honor them...

We are looking forward to better days in Tramp's Camp soon...

Thank you, Hermit Jim, for your caring words. They mean more than you could know... I am facing this day with hopes of a new start and am picking up the slack. And believe me, there is a lot of slack around here right now!!

I am so sorry about your friends son. I do want to tell you though.. my husband had pain from a ruptured disk in his back a long time and finally it went away when he began to lift weights. I know that sounds like the wrong thing to do--but it somehow popped it back into place for him. the pain was gone as quickly as it came.

While your friends deal with their son's condition and are an example to all, you're situation is yet another reminder that life is fragile and ANYTHING can change in an instant. Our prayers are with the two of you - and your friends - and we hope both of you will be working side by side soon. Treesong

Mary,

Thanks for the information about your husband's back. Sorry to say that Tramp 1 can't lift anything much right now - he should have been doing the weights long ago and he sure will start when this episode ends!

Treesong,

Thanks for the encouragement. We hope to be out picking berries with the bears, like you, real soon!

Our friend's son is still clinging to his life - his heart is strong and so is their conviction. No miracle happenening here - but perhaps it already has in that so many people have enjoyed Stephen for 17 years and are sharing their love to help keep this family strong. Sometimes we miss seeing what are truly the miracles in our lives...
