Life can change in one small second....

There haven't been many postings here lately. We are cycling through tough times. The son of friends was injured in an ATV accident two weeks ago and has been in a coma ever since. He had just finished the last day of his sophomore year in high school and went riding with a buddy. He was wearing full helmet protection but it simply wasn't enough somehow. His brain was badly bruised leaving him with a traumatic brain injury as diagnosed by a CAT scan. After the swelling went down enough, they were able to remove a necessary medical device inserted into his skull to measure and control pressure and they did an MRI. It did not produce the results everyone was praying for - there is also a brain stem injury. He has been moved out of intensive care and his many friends and family are praying for a miracle.

If you or anyone you know should ever have a medical crisis, there is a wonderful website - www.caringbridge.org - where you can share information with family and friends. You can post photos, keep a journal and there is also a guest log where people can leave their messages for the ill person and their family. It is free and easy to use. This particular young man has had over 5000 visits to his site. It allows the family to let many know his condition with having to talk to every person. And they can read the well wishes from others at their leisure. You never know what small statement could have a big impact when someone's heart is being weighed down with sadness.

Please take a moment to count your many blessings in this life and offer up a prayer for this young man to whatever/whomever you might worship. His family needs a lot of help right now...

I have missed your postings here but understand there are certainly far more demanding priorities in life than blogging.
The news about your friend is so sad. It's easy to forget that our life here is fragile and should not be taken for granted. Thank you for sharing this story and reminding me to count the blessings I have. We all need that nudge at times.

I too have missed your posts but completely understand the need to focus attention elsewhere. My prayers to your friends and thanks for the mention of the caring site. A friend just lost a four year old son after a routine tonsillectomy. I'll be thinking of you all and hope to hear positive news. Treesong

So sorry to hear this.
My family has experience with traumatic brain injury. 2 family members have suffered it. One sadly passed away, the other, my husband's only brother has permanent disibility but is living a fairly good life--just with challenges--we're so happy he has recovered as well as he has. Will pray for your friends.
