Been keeping secrets...

Okay, you don't actually think we tell you everything, do you? Sometimes things just have to be kept a secret. At least for awhile. But like I said the other day, change is afoot here at Tramp's Camp.

Actually, change is four of these great big furry feet!

That funny looking pink thing pictured in the previous post belongs to this guy. This is our new yellow lab puppy. Meet the new dog at Tramp's Camp - Chukar!

He is a very happy little fellow - or maybe I should say big fellow. He is now five months old and weighs in at a healthy 45 pounds.

He loves to chew and play, chase and fetch, eat and poo. Simply all the things that puppies are supposed to do!

About how he came to be here - Last month while we were visiting my Mom to do tax prep for her, we were invited to attend the local Ducks Unlimited banquet and were given tickets by some friends. We had attended several times in past years but not recently. We asked if they were going to have a puppy this year and they said no. But at the last minute someone brought one - this one - this cute guy that was all stinky with fear, being away from his Mom for the first time. It was love at first sight - for us all. When I was bidding on him, he stayed at my side like velcro. They had to drag him away to show him to other bidders. In the end, he was ours. But we could not bring him home yet as we did not have a safe place for him. So he stayed with new friends in Washington for a month. They did such a great job starting his training. And he had so much fun playing with his older half brother from another litter. He was potty trained in two days - so smart. After just a few weeks we went to visit him and took him to my Mom's for four days to bond with him. And we finally were able to bring him home this past weekend.

It was two years ago in March that we lost our dear Angus. It wasn't an easy decision for our hearts to change breeds from basset hounds to a lab. But with all the back surgeries Tramp 1 has had, we needed a dog with legs - a dog that could jump into the truck. And also a bigger dog that would also serve as a watch dog and a companion. We know that little Chukar - or Chuckie - or Chuck Chuck will be just perfect - he already is!!

Oh he most certainly is! Congrats to all of you!

He is a beautiful boy and I love his name. Is there any significance to it?

What a sweetie!

We are using Chukar as his AKC name. It is our version of a formal name for Chuck - the name of a favorite high school teacher of mine whose son was the person carrying this big puppy around at the DU banquet - and the family that he stayed with last month. So this is how Chuck got his name!

Our son has a black lab and he takes him duck hunting with him. This is a very loving and friendly breed of dog. I just bought a Morkie a few months ago. Half Maltese and half Yorkie.

He is beautiful! My son has a black lab that LOVES the water! He bought a trough to put out back for him to play in.
I love the comment 'we needed a dog with legs'. My son also has a Basset Hound name Eddie. He's sooo short and full grown. His ears are the longest I've seen on basset. We tell him all the time that if his legs were as long as his ears, he'd be able to jump!

Be still my heart. You know I have a special place in my heart for yellow labs. If I could, I'd jump right through this screen and give that new fur baby of yours some hugs and kisses. Lucky you. I am jealous. I hope you have tons of fun with him.

I'm so happy you made the leap with a new puppy...and a lab at that! Good choice...I want one but sometimes our dog sleeps with us and hubby says a lab would be too big...said him or the lab..I said ...could I get back to him on that!...lol...have fun!

He really looks just like my son's best friend named Radar. I can see he is still in that chewing stage. Hope you enjoy the ham; love the idea of ginger beer.
