It's not that we are anti-chicken here - it is the problem of what to do with the little darlings when we are away. I want chicks so badly that I even thought about talking to the people at the dog kennel where we used to leave dear old Angus to see if we could leave our chickens there... Hey, maybe that's it - maybe I need to start a chicken kennel. Then I could take care of chickens for other folks that are out of town. Let's see - Tramp's Camp could become Tramp O'Doodle Doo - we have a home for youuuu!! And we could provide grooming at Tramp's Poultry Parlor... I know, I know - nuts, completely bonkers, a real feather brained idea... But it is a step up from the days when I was known for using real chicken feet as swizzle sticks in cocktails.

Cluck, Cluck, Cluck...

Since living with my son & his family I have taken over the chicken detail, as well as dogs & cat details while they leave and play. Just like any other "pets" they poop & the daily care as well as cleaning out the coop etc, etc. I thought I wanted chicks...but would also want some time off too. Now we are moving and will try and transfer them via box and car...should be fun eh??? Yep it is a tie down job caring for them and I miss my freedom at times. BUT kind of like them too...a bitter sweet relationship. Good Luck.
P.S. LOVE your blog pic...beautiful
I'm like you I want them too. Hubby had said yes to that originally, but we are behind on so many projects that I guess this spring is not the time. I also want sheep. ;)
Same here but we like to leave in the summer so I try to keep it just MollieDog...a care taker would be nice..
Chickens can be so cool, if you don't mind the time required. It's not a job you can just pass off to others less enthusiastic than you, so you really have to be committed. But, I do love the fresh eggs, compost, and being able to feed my family, which means following the rule of never 'naming' the main character in future meals! And, thanks to my chickens, I have a lifetime funny story.
Chicken feet swizzle sticks!!! Now that's funny!! OMG, it just gets better....in the COCK-tails. LOL
Can you believe that free-range, organic eggs are $5.99 a dozen. I want chickens too!!
Have a good one,
Cath
Note to all - when I used the chicken feet to adorn cocktails, I dipped them in a light bleach solution first, then rinsed them well. They were a really party ice breaker! (I have to admit that if I did it again, I would collect them as folks discard them from their drink and put them in my stock pot - ever frugal!)
OK, You must elaborate on the cocktails with real chicken feet as swizzle sticks. This one I gotta here. And I still say put an ad in the local high school paper and interview some kids as a chicken babysitter. My son mowed lawns and babysat dogs while he was in school. He would of jumped at chicken babysitting. I bet some of your local friends know of a local kid that they would reccomend to you.

Love the chicken kennel idea! I could use one sometimes. Chickens aren't that hard to take care of though, especially if you do not go overboard (like me) and you get just a few chicks. If their coop is secure and you have enough feeders/waterers, you can even leave them for a couple days without needing help. I'm not trying to talk you into it, really, lol!
