Working on the pergola

Last week the glulams were delivered. They are made with two by six fir boards that are laminated together for load bearing strength. These big ones weigh in at around 450 pounds each and are 6x12x28 feet.

Yesterday they were decoratively cut on the ends and then the work began to get them up to their lofty perch.

It took a couple of hours to maneuver the first beam up and get it temporarily stabilized. By then the sun was going down and it was time to quit and wait for another day.
