Tramp 1 flew out very early this morning for business. He works some long hours when he has to travel for work. So today when he finished up early, he was invited to golf with an associate. He decided he would - probably the first time he has ever gone golfing on a work day. He had a few hours before he had to be back at the airport to pick up a fellow worker.
Anyway, they ended up golfing at a course in Layton, Utah - not a big area - nothing fancy. It was right by Hill Air Force Base and the fighter jets were flying. Since their time was limited, they hopped onto the back nine to avoid the seemingly slow play on the front nine. By the fifth hole, they caught up with an older man, his wife and probably a grandkid. They ended up following them to the last hole and decided they had to cut out and not play it. They waited until the older man and his group had teed off and then headed on by. Now to tell this right, I have to say that both Tramp 1 and his buddy had been looking at this older guy - he looked familiar. But who could it be - this was Utah and Tramp 1 is from several states to the west of there. As they walked by and got a better look, they checked out the name tag on his golf bag - yep.... it read Charlie Daniels. And yes, it was really him, in shorts and a baseball cap apparently golfing with his wife, Hazel and maybe a grandson. As they passed by, Tramp 1 said "Hi, Charlie, how are you doing?" and Charlie replied "Doin' great, thank ya. Y'all have a good day." And just prior to Tramp 1's conversation with Charlie, as yet another fighter jet flew over them, they heard Charlie comment to his family - "They are keeping us safe...."

What a great story and I imagine it was exciting for him to see Charlie too. It certainly was worth the time to go golfing today.
How neat!
