Out with the old - in with the old?!!....

About this time last year, I found a great bargain on Craigslist.  It was the very furniture that we almost bought back in the late 90's.  I even had the spec sheet tucked away in a file all these years...  (Yes, I save too many things...)

This is the spec sheet photo.  You were able to order this furniture in the fabric of your choice.

This is the sofa that we purchased thanks to Craigslist.

You can see the fabric up close on this picture of the chair.  Not a fabric that we would have picked out, even way back then.  But the deal we got on this furniture made it well worth the cost of reupholstering.  We got the sofa, a love seat, the chair, plus two end tables and a coffee table all for $200.  And this is good furniture - Flexsteel.  Very well made of solid oak.

To make this furniture work for us, we had to pick out new fabrics and have it reupholstered.  This is the fabric for the sofa and love seat.

This contrasting material is what we selected for the chair.  Both fabrics were purchased on sale, which helped cut costs on this project.

We found a really good upholstery business to do the work and now we have new to us furniture that we love.  The sofa turned out wonderful and is so comfortable.  The cost of the upholstery work was just $1800 for all three pieces. You would be hard pressed to find even just a sofa of this quality for that price.

The chair looks perfect in the contrasting brown fabric.  And we happened to have a leather ottoman that matches the nicely with the chair.

The coffee table is in such great condition for furniture that is probably close to twenty years old.

The colors and textures fit our home so well.  We love knowing that this furniture reflects our tastes and style.  And it is nice to know that we were able to upcycle these pieces and will enjoy them for many years to come.

Thanks, Craigslist!

Incredible what a difference the new fabric makes! The old fabric was so busy and stood out so much, you didn't notice the lines of the furniture. With the new fabric, that's the first thing I saw. Turned out great!!

That's a great find, and redo. You did get a good deal on the upholstery. I tried to have two of Mom's dining room end chairs reupholstered. They wanted that much just for the two chairs. I hated to take them to Goodwill, but maybe someone with more skill could fix them up. - Margy

Wow. What a bargain! My daughter and son-in-law have made most of their furniture purchased from Craigs list.

Just a-MAZ-ing! What a smart deal you made. "Older" furniture was made sooo much better than anything available today. Plus, by having pieces reupholstered, you get exactly YOUR choice rather than the options a furniture store has to offer. I think the look of your furniture is timeless.
