This weekend is the Sandhill Crane Festival in Washington State.I took my Mom there two weeks ago.
We were too early.
Only a small number of the birds had arrived.
We saw a flock circling far above us
looking like little specks in the sky.
They are big birds - very big - some 4 feet tall with a wingspan up to 5 feet.
About a million of them show up each year.
We enjoyed exploring parts of the refuge.
The views were inspiring - picture it green soon.
There are hiking trails and other areas to explore.
Definitely a place that we will make a return visit to.Maybe to see the cranes arrive next year!

We went through NE again on our way home---still no cranes. This has been the oddest year......

They are awesome birds. We have a wetlands area here that the cranes visit. I love to see them. Very majestic appearing birds.

A million cranes...must certainly be a sight to see.
