“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.” -

A Bit Out of Focus...

Some of last week seemed like Friday the 13th for a couple of days. Mind you, that would only be the case if you are superstitious. If you are not superstitious, then you might just think Tramp 1 had a bad day.

The poor guy leaves for work in the dark - but he must have also dressed in the dark... He came home one night last week and showed me that when he got to the office that morning he found he was wearing two different shoes! At least they were the same color (on top). No one at work even noticed... or at least they didn't say anything.

On that same day he had an appointment away from the office in the morning. On his way back to the office, not even a block away, his car got pulled through deep snow and slammed up against a curb. It did a real number on his front suspension requiring a couple of days in the shop and a new wheel.

Poor Chucky was waiting for snow. It never came... We live 25 miles from where Tramp 1 works - there was plenty of snow there - just none here. Chucky and I watched out the windows as the snow clouds swirled all around the valley and over the Cascade mountains. I know that with all the news about the weather in Oregon last week it is hard to believe that we didn't have snow here.

What we did have was wind. Days and nights of beating gusts. An entire week of never ending bumps, bangs, slams, whaps and whatever other sounds persistent wind might make. It took down this arbor in the side yard along with some fencing.

This awning over one of our BBQ areas was ripped last fall. That big gaping tear is probably the one thing that saved it from being blown into the next county. The tear seems to be serving as a vent for the winds that swirl up under the awning. So for now we will leave it that way and replace the awning in the summer.

We are sure getting hungry for some good BBQ. We are going to have get something cooking in the UDS (ugly drum smoker) real soon. We have a special rub we want to try. It is a wonderful homemade Christmas gift from our brother-in-law.

Yes, it is called Mr. Hankey's Crusty Butt Rub. For those of you that don't know about it - like us - Mr. Hankey has something do with the TV show South Park. If you want to get the humor, just Google it... or not...

We are sure anxious to try this rub. There is a bit of friendly family competition going on when it comes to all things meat and cooked in a UDS. We are surprised that he would share his rub - perhaps this is a trick of some sort? We will exercise some caution when we try it the first time! Spring is on the way - let the BBQ'n begin!

I do believe I would try a LITTLE taste of that rub before spreading it around. Sounds like a trick to me!

Yes, it sounds like there were some ill fates surrounding you last week. Thank goodness it was just stuff that got broken and not any of you three.
Hmmm that butt rub sounds mighty interesting. You are going to have to post how the meat tastes afterwards.
Send that sweet, handsome Chucky my way - I'll make sure he gets some snow to play in.
Stay safe - hope this week is much better.

Chucky gets more wonderful every time I see him. I miss Texas BBQ brisket.

I've gone to work with two different shoes on... unfortunately mine were noticed. Man, are you going to have some work to do come spring.

There are days that you wonder if you should have stayed in bed right?
It will be a while before we even think BBQ;we are in for another deep freeze!

Anything called a butt rub has to be good. I'm hoping for a roast the next time I get up to the cabin. - Margy
