This afternoon I was sitting at the computer when my brain started listening to a sound - a repetitive sound that slowly dredged up a memory.....
Mildred the dove has returned to the hanging basket she nested in last spring. It did not go well for her then and now she is back to try again. We don't know what happened then but we came home to find her dead hatchlings on the ground.
Now we have to decide whether to take the baskets down and clean them out in hopes she will nest elsewhere or if we should leave this one up and let her try again.
It could be a non issue due to the potential placement of my new greenhouse. Tramp 1 gave this to me for my birthday this week. It has to be placed somewhere sheltered due to our crazy winds that hit hard here. And the only spot is really close to Mildred's basket - maybe a foot away. That might be enough to have her seeking new real estate for her nursery!
The plan for this greenhouse is to use it to harden off plants that will be going into the garden or baskets and pots. I am not quite sure if it is the right thing but it might be the right thing for right now... Any advice out there?

When we finally move to a house with a bigger yard I'm definitely getting one of these.
Congrats on your new greenhouse! Happy Birthday!!!!
No good advice to give, but just to have fun and experiment!

Enjoy your new greenhouse.
Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.
I would love a greenhouse, but I am worried it wouldn't survive our winds on the cabin deck. One year our barn swallows lost their entire brood in the same way. We found all of them on the porch roof one after the other. We guessed sibling rivalry, but in the end none were left. Fortunately they breed twice a year, and the second time they were successful with four chick that fledged. Now we put up a pad on the roof to see if fallen nestlings might survive. They say the parents will continue to feed them, but our porch is a very hot place except way up under the eves. - Margy
