But I defer braving the weather to those who live in the southern United States. Yes, they can grow more things for a longer season with more moderate temperatures. But they also have extreme humidity and like today, the very real threat of tornadoes. That alone would have me packing to leave... (that and the chiggers, cottonmouth snakes, ticks...)
Our nephew goes to college in Nashville. He is young - when we were young we had no fear. But this kid is a lot smarter than we were at his age. One time he texted that he was in the basement of a very safe parking garage with a friend sitting out a bad storm. And today is no exception. Since I know that Nashville is in the main path for potential tornadoes today, I emailed him to see if he was back in that parking garage. He responded back to let me know that he and a friend are on the road headed to Pennsylvania and should be well ahead of the storm. My day will go much better knowing that they are going somewhere away - I hope it is far enough away... And I will be thinking of all those in the path of today's bad weather while we are enjoying a sunny day in our high desert.

Your nephew is a handsome guy! I know all about that weather threat. We are in tornado alley and under the gun today also. We had a little damage earlier in the week from the same storm that passed through Harrisburg Illinois. Hope we are as lucky today. It is scary season in my part of the country.
Geez my first comment sounded stupid! I meant to say I hope we are as lucky today to escape with only a little damage:)
aah yes, I remember the Texas tornadoes..When I was a child my parents would wake me in the middle of the night for us to join other neighbors in a cellar. It was actually a lot of fun as a child too young to know the danger of a looming tornado. Not so fun for the adults.
This has been a winter of extreme weather; I know how you feel about worrying. We would love to protect them for harm; not easy.

I'll take an earthquake over a tornado. Of course both are bad when severe, but growing up in LA we made it through some fairly large ones and came out OK. - Margy
I'm from the south(Alabama)and the tornado that hit northern Al was bad.I was here in Texas but it came within a few hundred feet of where my brother lived. He said it was loud and windy. But he's ok thank goodness. We just bought a small area and we are going to start and mini farm,Texas just don't want to cooperate with the weather to try to grow stuff.
