This is our oldest and biggest fellow with friends. He is very careful about his velvet antlers. Painful for him if he bumps things with them before his antlers have hardened off.
We have plenty of bucks coming in for a bite to eat. We serve special Purina Antler Growth Chow that is full of vitamins and minerals and provides good nutrition.
And the does bring in their little ones, too. They really enjoy the watermelon rind we put out for them. It is a nice wet treat during the hot summer days.

So cute, so tempting eh. It's funny though because my friend can't help but feed the squirrels in the winter. Then she gripes all summer long when they are stealing her strawberries! This year she got nary a one for her own harvest. Instead, she came home to find them all up in the spruce trees drying for the winter having been harvested by the squirrels on the very day she was looking forward to getting home from work and spending the evening in the strawberry patch!

What a great story about your friend being outwitted by her dear squirrels! Sometimes it is the challenge to see who wins... We don't mind sharing... If we had to survive from our harvest this year, we would be dead before Christmas!

What wonderful pictures. It's ILLEGAL here to feed the deer. We feed the TURKEYS.......yup, gotta spread out corn(and apples and carrots) for the TURKEYS.
As hard as our winters are, there would be a lot of starving TURKEYS here if we didn't feed them.

By Bro-in-Law has neighbors that feed the deer. They have a trail that cuts through his property where of course, he has a stand and next week (archery opens) he plans to put yet another batch of Venison in the freezer.
That there is one impressive Mulie.
I'm smiling so much. I fed the big white bunnies when lived in Fargo-- guess what-- they were the big brown bunnies that enjoyed the garden later that year too.
Still--it was something to look at in Fargo in winter--which--well if you've wintered there you know its just about worth sacrificing a garden for something to look at outside in winter. ;)
Looks to me like a happy bunch of critters! Can't blame you for wanting to give them a bit to snack on...

Archery season opened here yesterday and poor old Tramp 1 has been told he can't hunt this season by his neurosurgeon. But he never hunts at home anyway. Taking care of the deer here is kind of a storage thing - they will be here if we need them later!

They do enjoy their treats. But we have one bad boy that keeps sneaking in past our fences. We caught him tonight in the dark when we went out to chack the BBQ. Scared him and sure scared me! He had a very hard time finding his way out again even though we quickly left the area when we found him there. He made quite a lot of noise - sounded like he was on our deck. He finally made it out - we will be checking for a blood trail in the morning....
Great pics...and yes they can become trouble...but cute in their own way. I have a few around here but they sure don't look as good as yours!
