April 1st brought surprise weather - it snowed all day.
The potatoes need to be planted. Hopefully the snow will melt quickly.
Onion sets are also waiting to get into the ground. The raised beds are ready but will be muddy with the melting snow. But the sun today will dry things out quickly.
Since I am on light duty with my knee issue, over the weekend I worked on sorting seeds and making garden plans. I am constantly inspired by my dear friend, Sue, at Sue's Garden Journal. She lives to garden and is so very humble about her amazing prowess with dirt, seeds and plants!
Needing to plant something - I started basil seeds and am keeping them near the wood stove to help with germination.
Yes, I succumbed to purchasing some annuals way too early to set outside. I am going to make a basket up that I can hang outside during the day and bring in at night. I am hoping that the flowers will attract a passing hummingbird and entice it to stay with us for the season.
All the hummingbird feeders were washed and tucked away last fall. So nice to have them ready to go when needed. I put out three feeders to start - sure do hope we have some visitors soon!
This nifty folding shelf unit on wheels gives me a lot of flexibility to be able to roll plants out on good days and back into the garage at night. And I love that the shelf folds up flat when not in use - I got two of them because I know I will have seedlings needing to be hardened off in another month or so.
What about you? Are you starting your spring planting yet?

Looks like your all set to go---I hope Ma Nature gives you the weather you need.
We got FULL SUN today and 44 degrees. I'm amazed how fast the snow is going. That cold frame I set up 2 days ago is melted--heck,. I couldn't even see the frame when I did that. I'm getting so antsy-and it looks like I have company-hahahhahaha!
Take care, dear friend You'll be needing that knee a lot this summer-so take advantage of "stalled" plans.
Hugs
I think winter has definitely overstayed his welcome! Time to move on out!! That's a lot of hummingbird feeders, you must get tons of those little guys in your area.
Hope your knee is healing well!
Not planting but we have been doing our flower beds maintenance a good bit. Cleaning up nicely.
My traditional planting week is Easter. That's because when I worked, it was the only spring holiday long enough for us to get up to the cabin. The tradition has held, except last week was so rainy I didn't want to work in the muddy soil, and didn't want to have my seeds washed away. I have enough potatoes left over from last year's crop for seed potatoes, so I'm good to go. I already bought my onion and garlic sets, and some seeds. This year I'm going to try quinoa. I'll let you know how it comes out. - Margy
How are things? Looking forward to your next post!
