“Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather.” -

As 2012 Ends...

December has been a blur for us here.  Sure do hope that January slows down a bit!  Hibernation sounds really good right now...

Traveling in December afforded us lovely vistas.

My dear Mom as a little girl.  I have been blessed to have had every Christmas but one with her.  And she lets Chucky inside her house!

My Dad as a baby.  We lost him in December of 1999.  Christmas really changed for us all without him...

So here it is, New Year's Eve.  Tramp 1 is out of town working tonight.  (We are so fortunate he has a good job that he loves...)  Chucky is snoring softly, all spread out on his pillow.  And I am sitting here wondering what 2013 will bring. Our nation is going to fall off the "fiscal cliff" tonight - so it is time to tighten our budget and make the necessary cuts in how we live so we can pay more taxes...  Tramp 1 is on the cusp of another back surgery - but the neurosurgeon said he doesn't know where to start or whether to patch him or fuse him... For now he will hang on with physical therapy and tenacity.  And I think my poor carrots are probably frozen solid in their raised bed, hoop house still up, covered with snow!  (I know this last tidbit doesn't fit with the rest - but it has really been bugging me!)

Yes, life can be a crap shoot.  But it sure beats the alternative!  Time to forge onward and get to planning another garden.  The snow will melt, planting time will arrive and hopefully that darned "fiscal cliff" will have been blasted away by the time seeds start to germinate.  Baby birds will be born, butterflies will flutter about the flowers and the deer will bring their fawns to drink at our pond.  The competition BBQ season will be smoking hot and we will all be enjoying picnics and family time.

Here's hoping that no one around here decides to ring in the New Year with cannons or fireworks because I plan to sleep my way in 2013!!  Wishing you all whatever you wish for!!

"New Year's is a harmless annual institution, of no particular use to anybody save as a scapegoat for promiscuous drunks, and friendly calls and humbug resolutions."

Mark Twain
