Just a bit ago I went outside to do a few things. I was headed out to unplug the pond heater and decided to go to the shop to pull some plants out in the sun and get some deer chow. It was really nice out and I thought I would chop some wood while I was outside. Bad idea - really bad idea. Now I am sitting here unable to use my right index finger to type - very time consuming... What I did wrong was to chop wood without gloves on. On a sharp down swing of the maul, something went wrong and my knuckle was mashed against a piece of wood. The skin is split open all the way across. And let me tell you, it is hurting pretty good. I washed the area as best I could and stopped the bleeding with gauze. Now I have it wrapped in a special knuckle bandaid that we had on hand from when the dog had part of his tail amputated. I did all this without fainting! I am not good at this kind of thing at all...
And now I am not a happy camper. I have a big pot of beets bubbling away on the wood coookstove that I was planning to pickle. And I just know Tramp 1 is going to try to get to that woodpile when he gets home from work. I will give the finger a few hours of rest and then head back down there to see what I can do... with gloves on!

Oh my, that sounds like a lot of hurt. Hope your day goes better in the hours to come.
OUCH!!!! Double OUCH!!!!
I am so sorry to hear that happened...oh my goodness! Yes, dear, what were you doing with no gloves on? but I'm sure you already asked that question to yourself; yes?
Don't do it if it still hurts...be careful with yourself...
Also, Yes Hurricane is very very expressive! He is great to watch becuase you can tell exactly what he is thinking with his eyes...
lovely dog...and still terrorizing Angel-Kitty, well, maybe that's not true. But they are fun to watch :)
Ouch!! Hope it will be OK.
Yikes, I hope it's not too serious.
I can imagine that hurt bad enough to yell out a few choice words. If you have an Aloe plant in the house, break off a piece and rub the skin where it split. Only do this after it has a scab. It is excellent for healing. I especially like it for burns. Take care....use the gloves.
I used to sell firewood for part of my living. Been there - done that. As president Clinton used to say, "I feel your pain!"
gosh, seems like the time of year for painful accidents. hope your hand heals 100% very very soon! i fell down 18 steps and thankfully got away with just some black and blue marks and no major soreness whatsoever! be careful!!
Like most I've done that too. Lately I too have forgotten my gloves and spend the next day or to picking slivers out of my hands. LOL maybe I should tie a string to each glove and hang them off my neck.
Heal fast!
Literally "flipping wood" ...AS one maul owner to another, I cringed when i read your post - been there done that and you have my total sympathy...OUCH!
When splitting elm (I HATE, OBHOR ELM - SATANS WOOD) I had a piece come back and hit me right below my knee and I crumpled right there. Took me out for days. Made me paranoid for a bit and my swing was off - until I found my insulated bibs padded me well - too bad I cant wear them in the summer when stocking lol so yes gloves are mandatory too...
Splitting wood is not for sissies- you be a brave woman!
I feel your pain! Man! i bet that hurt!!!! Hope it heals fast!!!
You are one tought lady; hope you are ok. Now I'm wodeering about those beets; wish I was there to give you a hand. Take care.
