Busy getting ready for winter...

Today my list is long - but not as long as it was yesterday. How's that for optimism? Yep, winter is arriving here this weekend after a long and deceptive period of fall weather. I am scrambling to get things either buttoned up or tucked away. In actuality, I hope the weather reports are wrong and things moderate just a little bit. Having the temperatures headed to the teens at night puts a lot of pressure on to get potted plants that we winter over put safely inside. These are really big pots and I need to wrestle them into a wagon and pull them over to the shop. Some plants just need to be heeled into one of the raised garden beds for better protections. It all takes time and I am racing against the weather.

With Tramp 1 still having grave issues with his back after two injections, I am working so hard to do many of the necessary preparations before he gets home from work. Yesterday I was faced with getting eight of twelve snow tires out of the storage area in the back of our shop. I should have taken a picture... I had to move and climb over three motorcycles, a chipper/shredder and a welder. But first I had to move a lot of other things - archery equipment, a lawnmower, camping gear - the list is too long to put here. The tires were in the far back on an old storage trunk, stacked eight high and the smaller ones were on the bottom. They were the ones I needed first. But I had to pull the whole pile out. I just about scared myself doing it and still have stud tracks on my forearms! And yes, I am so sore! There are still four more snow tires in there and they can stay there!

Guess I'd better get back to work - I have to take the truck and camper into town for repairs. While I was working on winterizing the camper, something went wrong with the water pump. I simply don't want to deal with it right now and will not let Tramp 1 scrunch down to reach into the cabinet where the pump sits. So we will gladly pay someone else to fix it - at least I will... Tramp 1 is still grumbling about not being allowed to try to fix it - but first we need to get him fixed!

WOW..lots going on. I wish I was closer..I would come and help you. Sometimes things just seem overwhelming for sure...but one step at a time and do what you can do. I am really thinking about cleaning up and getting rid of everything we absolutely don't need ...just makes things so much simpler...good luck and let us know how you are doing..

Boy, you can really turn the 'guilt' thumbscrews. Now, I have to get outside and do my yard work and throw out unnecessary items... maybe after a cup of coffee or something... yeah, that's what I'll do... have some coffee... maybe some cake, too... Glad you've gotten so far ahead of me!... Come visit when you can...

Hey, Cheryl and Sharlene,

Thanks for your concern - yes, no rest for the wicked... We just finished dinner and are headed out in the dark to work on the hot tub - which has been a cold tub for over a year. Some water got into it and we have to bail it out, then treat the cover with protective polish and tarp the whole thing. When we are done, hot toddies and dessert for us!

There is always something to do when you own property! Hope you stay strong and balance your hard work with some R and R!

Heeheehee, I'm so sorry but you so have my life. Isn't it amazing the things we can accomplish when we are trying to save the hubby from extra pain.

Wendy,
I chop wood until I hurt - that is how I balance things! It snowed last night - glad I got so much done.

Pacy,
Yes, I often think about how you and I both have similar issues at home with our fellas and their health. It is really hard to keep them down and having to do so brings us down... But all the work is very rewarding when I can look back at what I have done alone. And find I can't hardly walk!!!

I'm currently reading a book called River House, by Sarah Lee Lawrence. It is about life in your part of Oregon. I'm quite sure I'm not up to it. I'm a city girl wimp.

Linda,
I will put your book on my "to read" list. It has gotten long as I have been too tired to read! I would like to try being a city girl again - I miss it. But it isn't just being in the country that makes so much work for us, it is our hobbies and our climate. Trying to grow things that are not native to this region requires a lot of effort. Last night we struggled to get my big potted star jasmine into the garage for winter...
