Snowing Again...

What an interesting time this year has brought us with weather. Here it is, snowing again in Tramp's Camp this morning. As you probably know, I love the stuff! I wish it would snow all day! It makes me want to hunker down, throw some more wood on the cook stove and put on a pot of soup, then grab a good book and watch the snow pile up. But with this being late season snow, I know it probably won't last long. It snowed like mad a week ago Sunday morning - and when I checked live cams in town, it was sunny there - just snowing here on the buttes for us!

Whether the snow lasts or not, it is always good to put on a pot of something when the wood cook stove is fired up. There was a very simple and tasty meal that was served at a cousin's home when I was young that I really liked. Now, years later, it seems to be a good meal for budget minded folks of today. And with cabbage on sale for St. Pat's, this would be a great time to use the savings and make a pot of tasty Cabbage Goulash. It is very simple and quick to prepare. Serve over brown rice for a filling and satisfying dish. And remember to stock up on cabbage while it is on sale - it stores very well if treated properly - rinse the head of cabbage, trim any damaged spots and dry it off, then wrap in paper towels and place loosely in a plastic bag and refrigerate. Air circulation is the key to storing it well.

Cabbage Goulash

1 lb. hamburger
2 heads cabbage
1 bottle BBQ Sauce (18 oz.)
1 large can tomato sauce
2 large cans tomatoes

Cut up cabbage into 2 quarts water.
Add raw hamburger and simmer until cabbage is tender.
Salt, add remaining ingredients.
Cook for 30 minutes more.

With food like that I think I have a 21 y/o son that would like to move in with you!

sounds wondeful. We have had lots of rain lately--the southern version of snow.
