It has been a snowy day here at Tramp's Camp. I really like it when it snows. Something about the clean white coating that blankets the garden and lets you sit down with a pile of books to plan for spring is comforting. The other comforting thing around here is the incredible aroma. I have had a pot of stock bubbling away on the wood cook stove all afternoon and the copious quantities of chopped onion and sliced garlic have lent their heady fragrance to the air. There is something so wonderful about being able to create heat and a meal at the same time and think of family long passed that cooked on this very wood cook stove. I wish I could have known them and seen them cooking on this stove.
Tramp 1 chopped enough wood for the week on Sunday and all I have to do is go out into the gently swirling snow and grab an armload - I am so spoiled! I need to spoil him a bit, too, so I am making won ton soup for dinner with fresh/frozen basil which we were able to keep growing (inside) until November and then froze in ice cube trays - so easy to just pop out a cube and toss it into a soup or stew. And I might even mix up some dough for cookies if there is time. Our cravings for sweets seem to get the best of us lately - it will be healthy cookies full of oats, nuts and dried fruit!

Wonderful! I can smell it. I just packed my lunch bag with one of my frozen chunks of homemade soup and a salad. :) Everyone at work gets jealous when they smell the homemade soup on the microwave. ;) We have warmer weather now, I hope it lasts, but your description does make snow memories come to mind.
Great blog! Very well written. I enjoyed my visit and will be back. I MUST try the bread recipe!
Mo - thank you so much for the kind comments about our blog. And yes, do try the bread. It is so good that we have had to stop baking it so often! Tramp 1 really likes that he can make something that turns out so delicious every time.
Welcome to Tramp's Camp and please come back to visit!

Do you make your soups and stews with snow water? Snow, as it happens, makes the BEST morning coffee (especially when in the woods).
Interesting to hear the wolves are making a come-back.
